About Chemical Peels
Like everything else in life, human skin needs maintenance. A single VI Peel will achieve significant repair and add a healthy glow to the skin. It is a true, restorative, and painless repair of damaged skin including sun damage and acne. The VI Peel produces dramatic results without the deeper, more painful approach of traditional chemical peels, which is why double board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Suzanne Trott chose the VI Peel for her Beverly Hills, CA practice. The many innovations that created the VI Peel combine to enable the entire continuum of skin types to enjoy the benefits of the peel. For the first time, Afro-American and darker skin types such as some Asian and Latin skins can experience anti-aging and restorative skin care that was previously unavailable. The VI Peel’s wonderful results will last as long as skin care is maintained, sun exposure is moderate, and preventive aging with the VI Peel is performed 3 or 4 times per year. In between, skin care is maintained and optimized with an appropriate home care program designed for your skin. Schedule a treatment or consultation at Suzanne A. Trott, MD, FACS.
"Dr Trott is amazing, she's seriously such a genius. She gets me, and as a fellow female she understands exactly what it is I'm looking for. I had liposuction done to contour my body more and I never felt like I had to break down what my goal was- I literally told her to do whatever she thought would look best aesthetically and she DELIVERED. I'm beyond happy with the results, her after care regime is on point and she uses her own designed compression garment. She is simply the best, I cannot say enough good things about her and her skills."- S.V. / Yelp / Sep 23, 2017
"I met Dr. Trott through a mutual friend who thought I might be a good candidate for a thread lift. I felt a bit apprehensive about the procedure until Suzanne explained the process, answered my questions, and encouraged my feedback at every stage. She was so warm, loving and knowledgeable, that my fears disappeared; I knew I was in the hands of an experienced, caring, professional. My results are absolutely astonishing! It has been five days since the procedure. I looked younger ( jaw line tight, folds around mouth all but erased) immediately. I look younger everyday. I am 58 and now look better than I have in years. Thank you Dr. Trott for making it fun to look in the mirror once again. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Dr. Trott; you will be so glad you did!"- S.K. / Yelp / Aug 19, 2017
"I happily recommend Dr. Suzanne Trott. After years of plastic surgery I gained the courage to have the hanging skin on my arms removed. Dr. Trott immediate made me feel comfortable. As a female doctor she understood why I was taking this step and I could not be more pleased. Sleeveless dresses here I come."- L.B. / Yelp / May 30, 2017
"Dr Trott is amazing! Best Botox in all of Beverly Hills. She makes it look so natural and the best part is she somehow makes it painless. On top of all that she is the sweetest person ever!"- A.M. / Yelp / May 13, 2017
"My visits with Dr. Trott are great. She makes room for me in her busy schedule for Botox. She is always warm, welcoming and makes me feel very comfortable. Types of Chemical Peels
There are several types of chemical peels offered by our office. The strength used will be determined based on the skin condition of the patient, as well as the aesthetic goals and desired downtime. Our office offers the following peels:
- Superficial/Light Peel: This is the mildest chemical peel. It is performed in a matter of minutes with only about 3 – 5 days downtime of peeling. During this peel, only the top layer of skin is removed, which causes the skin to immediately look smoother, more even toned, and brighter. These peels are usually comprised of alpha hydroxyl or beta hydroxyl acid, along with salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid. Usually, multiple treatments are recommended to get the best possible results.
- Medium Depth Peel: This peel goes deeper than a light peel and therefore, provides more dramatic results. This particular peel is usually derived from Trichloroacetic acid (known as TCA); it is a type of acid that penetrates deeper into the skin. A medium depth peel is used to treat hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and sun damage. Since the peel goes deeper, a patient can expect a longer recovery period and should plan ahead since the face can be swollen, itchy and red for about 10 days following the treatment.
- Deep Peel: This is the strongest chemical peel is the deep peel and is used for deep scarring, excessive wrinkles, and more serious skin irregularities. While these peels promise the most dramatic results, a patient can be quite shocked by his or her appearance immediately following the procedure. High-strength TCA or carbolic acid, or phenol, is used to penetrate the deeper layers of skin. Since this peel is more invasive, some form of anesthesia may be used. Following the peel, the skin will be intensely red comparable to a severe sunburn. The entire face will be swollen and then scab. Intense peeling will occur and the downtime could last 3 – 4 weeks, or longer.
What to Expect
Regardless of the peel used, the overall procedure is similar. The skin will be cleansed thoroughly and the chemical solution will be applied to the face. This process takes just a few minutes and a handheld fan is used to help decrease discomfort. During a light peel, the skin will tingle during treatment. A medium peel will produce a bit more discomfort, and a deep peel will require a numbing agent or anesthesia. The differences between the peels are the type of solution used, the number of steps taken during the actual procedure, as well as the amount of solution that is applied. A soothing ointment will be applied to the skin after the treatment. In the days that follow, the skin will begin to naturally flake and peel away.
Patients should avoid picking at the skin or trying to speed up the peeling process in any way because this can result in scarring. Patients should avoid sun exposure and keep their skin protected at all times. Patients will need to have regular chemical peel treatments to maintain their results.
