About Chemical Peels
Like everything else in life, human skin needs maintenance. A single VI Peel will achieve significant repair and add a healthy glow to the skin. It is a true, restorative, and painless repair of damaged skin including sun damage and acne. The VI Peel produces dramatic results without the deeper, more painful approach of traditional chemical peels, which is why double board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Suzanne Trott chose the VI Peel for her Beverly Hills, CA practice. The many innovations that created the VI Peel combine to enable the entire continuum of skin types to enjoy the benefits of the peel. For the first time, Afro-American and darker skin types such as some Asian and Latin skins can experience anti-aging and restorative skin care that was previously unavailable. The VI Peel’s wonderful results will last as long as skin care is maintained, sun exposure is moderate, and preventive aging with the VI Peel is performed 3 or 4 times per year. In between, skin care is maintained and optimized with an appropriate home care program designed for your skin. Schedule a treatment or consultation at Suzanne A. Trott, MD, FACS.
"Dr. Trott has changed my life! I found her by getting recommendations from about 4 girlfriends who had the same procedure I was going in for. All were happy with their results, so I knew she was definitely someone I wanted to meet with. As soon as I met her for my initial consultation, I knew she was the surgeon for me. She is beyond friendly and warm and I knew I would be in good hands. She really took her time with me, showing me additional photos, thoroughly explaining the procedure to me. Aside from me really liking her work, I was happy with the fact that she only performs one surgery a day so she can take her time. I had met with another surgeon who would have slotted me as his 4th surgery for the day. Her surgical team is amazing, I didn't have one complication. She came to visit me at the aftercare facility and makes herself available to her patients by cellphone. Addy, her office manager, is so friendly and helpful. I am still healing but am already so happy with the results! Everyone I know tells me how amazing I look and that the work looks so natural. I literally cannot say enough good things about Dr. Trott. She is THE BEST!!!"- S.S. / Yelp / Jan 05, 2018
"Can't say enough great things about Dr. Trott. A true professional be it injections or full on surgery. She is extremely knowledgeable. She gets what your are hoping to achieve all while managing concerns and expectations. We have had excellent results with both. In addition, she is there for you 100% post procedure. After a very long surgery she was available 24 hours a day via phone and even came into to the office on a holiday to meet us and make sure everything was ok. Beautiful results due to her time and attention to detail. Love her!"- E.D. / Yelp / Oct 08, 2018
"I chose Dr. Trott from her glowing online reviews and I am so glad I did! She truly is as wonderful as everyone raves about. I had a breast reduction surgery that went a few hours longer than expected because she has so much attention to detail she wanted it to turn out perfect. And I am so happy with the result. What was really important to me was how kind and reassuring she was. I get very nervous in doctor's offices and was pretty scared for the actual surgery, but she was so accommodating? and didn't just shrug off my fears. She made me feel so comfortable and I really appreciate her for that. Plus, her office staff is the sweetest! I would recommend? Dr. Trott to anyone I know and you should definitely, definitely give her office a call!"- J.C. / Yelp / Aug 07, 2018
"I don't know if I've ever left a Yelp review before, but I just had to when it came to Dr Trott. I hardly even know how to get across how strongly I recommend her. She does incredible work. She's great at listening to what you want and any concerns you have. She's patient and caring, and you'll definitely be safe in her hands. She's also innovative. She's always doing research and staying up to date. I would trust her with my life - in fact, I literally have trusted her with my life and I'd do it again."- A.D. / Yelp / Feb 20, 2018
"55 Years Old, Two Kids, Total Body Lipo - Dr. Suzanne Trott is to the human body what Michelangelo was to marble. She is a master of both the science and art of body sculpting. A surprising result for me was how quickly I recovered. I attribute that partly because of Dr. Trott's skill and experience, and partly because of the confidence I had in her. My confidence was partly because of her reputation (she came with high recommendations from a couple of aestheticians I know), and also because of her ability to give a clear and understandable explanation of the whole process and her patience when answering questions. Dr. Trott had respect for me and my goals, worked with me to develop a plan, executed the plan, monitored the outcome, and I couldn't be happier with the results."- P.T. / RealSelf / Feb 17, 2018
Types of Chemical Peels
There are several types of chemical peels offered by our office. The strength used will be determined based on the skin condition of the patient, as well as the aesthetic goals and desired downtime. Our office offers the following peels:
- Superficial/Light Peel: This is the mildest chemical peel. It is performed in a matter of minutes with only about 3 – 5 days downtime of peeling. During this peel, only the top layer of skin is removed, which causes the skin to immediately look smoother, more even toned, and brighter. These peels are usually comprised of alpha hydroxyl or beta hydroxyl acid, along with salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid. Usually, multiple treatments are recommended to get the best possible results.
- Medium Depth Peel: This peel goes deeper than a light peel and therefore, provides more dramatic results. This particular peel is usually derived from Trichloroacetic acid (known as TCA); it is a type of acid that penetrates deeper into the skin. A medium depth peel is used to treat hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and sun damage. Since the peel goes deeper, a patient can expect a longer recovery period and should plan ahead since the face can be swollen, itchy and red for about 10 days following the treatment.
- Deep Peel: This is the strongest chemical peel is the deep peel and is used for deep scarring, excessive wrinkles, and more serious skin irregularities. While these peels promise the most dramatic results, a patient can be quite shocked by his or her appearance immediately following the procedure. High-strength TCA or carbolic acid, or phenol, is used to penetrate the deeper layers of skin. Since this peel is more invasive, some form of anesthesia may be used. Following the peel, the skin will be intensely red comparable to a severe sunburn. The entire face will be swollen and then scab. Intense peeling will occur and the downtime could last 3 – 4 weeks, or longer.
What to Expect
Regardless of the peel used, the overall procedure is similar. The skin will be cleansed thoroughly and the chemical solution will be applied to the face. This process takes just a few minutes and a handheld fan is used to help decrease discomfort. During a light peel, the skin will tingle during treatment. A medium peel will produce a bit more discomfort, and a deep peel will require a numbing agent or anesthesia. The differences between the peels are the type of solution used, the number of steps taken during the actual procedure, as well as the amount of solution that is applied. A soothing ointment will be applied to the skin after the treatment. In the days that follow, the skin will begin to naturally flake and peel away.
Patients should avoid picking at the skin or trying to speed up the peeling process in any way because this can result in scarring. Patients should avoid sun exposure and keep their skin protected at all times. Patients will need to have regular chemical peel treatments to maintain their results.
