Ideal Candidates For a Facelift
Often, individuals interested in a facelift procedure are frustrated by advanced lines and wrinkles in the mid or lower regions of the face. Facelift surgery can target one or more areas, depending on your personal needs. It is important to note that age won't always define the most effective time to have cosmetic facial surgery. There are numerous unique aspects, as well as multiple lift types, to inform the choice. The method performed will vary for candidates under 50 versus those in their 60s and 70s. Skin laxity is one of the key elements in the decision-making process. Further, facelift patients need to be in good overall health, be a nonsmoker, and approach the procedure with realistic result expectations.
Surgical Facelift Technique
Regardless of your aesthetic concerns, there are numerous facelifts available. Some facelifts treat the upper area of the face, and others focus on the middle and lower. In addition, some procedures are a bit more invasive and intricate than others. It is also common for some men and women to have an eyelid lift, brow lift, or fillers and BOTOX to complement their outcomes. A few of the more known facelift methods include:
- Full Facelift
A common surgery for older adults, the full facelift usually puts an incision along the hairline, extending down to the area near the temples, reaching the base of the ears. The underlying facial muscles are gently pulled and securely tightened to create a lifted outcome, which reduces excessive loose skin and droopy features. The traditional facelift is reserved for individuals who have visible signs of aggressive aging. During a full facelift, many procedures may be used, including upper or lower blepharoplasty to address the eyes or neck reduction for the lower region.
- Lower Facelift
This particular facelift corrects the neck and chin and sometimes the jowls. Methods of a nonsurgical nature, such as a KYBELLA injection, can also be used for chin augmentation to attain a softer, tighter neck.
- Mini Facelift
When undergoing a mini facelift, a thin, small incision is placed around the ears to lift the skin, which enhances the mouth and jawline. This process creates nice and subtle enhancements that look beautiful and natural.
