Best Candidates for Buccal Fat Removal

The best candidates for a buccal fat removal procedure of the cheeks are those who are in good health but desire to slim down their mid-face area. Additionally, individuals with age-related volume loss in their cheeks or who have naturally hollow cheeks may also desire to undergo this procedure. Buccal fat removal can also effectively create more symmetry to the face by balancing the cheeks on both sides. During a comprehensive consultation, Dr. Trott will evaluate your current facial structures and goals to determine if you may be an ideal candidate for this procedure. Candidates who wish to restore volume to their cheeks but desire a less invasive approach may be better suited for a dermal filler treatment.

    Other Considerations

For your buccal fat removal procedure, local anesthesia or IV sedation will be provided in order to allow you to remain comfortable during your surgery, which is performed entirely in the office. The entire process takes about one hour,  but this could vary from patient to patient. To begin the procedure, incisions are made in your mouth within the lower section of each cheek. Next, the buccal fat pad is manually extracted equally on each side. Once the procedure is complete, the incisions will be carefully sutured closed. After you are evaluated and discharged, we will send you home with a friend or family member. The healing process will start at home, and a member of our team will provide careful, aftercare instructions on how to properly take care of your incisions.

Following your procedure, you may need to stick to a diet of soft foods until your incisions fully heal. Additionally, you will notice some swelling within the cheeks, but this should diminish a little each day. After the swelling has dissipated, you should be able to see your end results. You will also need to attend a follow-up appointment so that Dr. Trott can effectively observe your recovery.
