About Thigh Lift Surgery
No matter how healthy your diet is or how many thigh exercises you perform, you cannot naturally get rid of the excess, sagging skin from the inner thighs. Loose, sagging skin on the thighs may be caused by significant weight loss, natural aging, or genetics, but it can be corrected. A medial thigh lift (thighplasty) by double board-certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Suzanne Trott will tighten the sagging skin of your inner thighs for a smooth contour that shows off your leg muscles.
For most post-bariatric patients who undergo multiple body contouring procedures, a thigh lift is usually one of the last of the staged procedures performed. Dr. Trott recommends undergoing the lower body lift (belt lipectomy) first, as that alone will tighten up some of the medial thigh skin. Each patient's unique treatment plan will be created during their consultation at Suzanne A. Trott, MD, FACS in Beverly Hills, CA.

Best Candidates
The best candidates for a thigh lift are those who are at or near a stable, healthy weight. Patients who have loose skin hanging from the inner and/or outer thigh are ideal candidates for this procedure. Because thighplasty is a skin tightening surgery, patients who simply wish to remove fat, but otherwise have good skin laxity, will be better suited for a liposuction procedure. However, for best results, a thigh lift may include some liposuction to remove stubborn fat pockets.
What to Expect
Thigh lift surgery, if performed alone, takes about 2 – 3 hours to complete and is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. During a thigh lift surgery, the most common incision points are placed in the groin and in many cases, depending on the amount of skin to be removed, extends downward. The hanging skin is trimmed away and the underlying tissue is re-draped and tightened. Depending on the needs of the patient, the doctor will either perform a medial thigh lift, targeting the inner thigh, or a lateral tight lift, which targets the outer thigh. Patients who have an outer thigh lift will generally need to have their butt lifted as well. This combination approach is sometimes incorporated into an overall lower body lift for severe skin sagging. The recovery for a thigh lift is somewhat slow, but this is primarily due to the location of the incisions. On average, patients can expect to return to light activities within 2 weeks, and complete their recovery in about 6 – 8 weeks. Because of newly enhanced thighs and a slimmer thigh appearance, patients find that their self-confidence improves greatly after this surgery.
Other Considerations
Depending on how much skin was removed, there may be scars that are evident outside of the groin area. Proper scar care is needed for the scars to heal safely. The surgeon will go over ways to minimize scarring during your recovery.
