What is Blepharoplasty?

The eyes are an attractive feature of the face that deserve to be shown; however, an excess of skin around the eyes can produce an aging facial appearance. Dr. Suzanne Trott offers blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery) to reduce excess skin and rejuvenate the lower or upper eyelid, creating an awakened appearance. So many men and women undergo eyelid surgery at Suzanne A. Trott, MD, FACS to eliminate saggy eyelids, leading to improved functionality and facial appearance. Whether upper or lower, eyelid surgery creates a more awakened appearance and can give you subtle yet striking improvements. If you want to learn more about rejuvenating your eyes with eyelid lift surgery, contact us to schedule a consultation with Dr. Trott at her practice in Beverly Hills, CA.

Ideal Candidates For Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a facial cosmetic enhancement that is sought out by both women and men. At your first visit, treatment options will be explained by Dr. Trott based on your symptoms that need to be corrected. In most cases, ideal candidates are frustrated with excess, hanging skin and folds on the upper eyelid, or bloated skin just under the bottom eyelid. These irregularities can cause vision impairment that can get in the way of daily activities. For a more awake facial appearance, blepharoplasty may be the right procedure for you. If you have loose skin that droops on the upper eyelid, or bulges and puffiness under the eyes, blepharoplasty can treat this to give you a softer appearance.

EyeLid Surgery Technique

Depending on the nature of the eyelid surgery, general anesthesia or IV sedation will be used. This procedure may be done on the top eyelid by itself, on the bottom portion, or a combination of both eyelids.

  • Upper
Upper eyelid surgery assists in decreasing the folds of skin that droops over the eye to create a more appealing eyelid appearance. The incision point is often placed along the lash line or crease to trim away skin and tissue.
  • Lower
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to improve puffy skin under the lower lid. The incision is carefully made below the lash line to allow access to remove tissue and fat, and the skin is subtly lifted to allow for a smoother look. In some cases, a nonsurgical laser treatment can be applied to assist with discoloration while dermal fillers can be used for additional smoothness and softening if needed.

What to Expect

Eyelid surgery can last up to two hours based on whether one or both eyes are treated. After the procedure, you should expect about a week to rest and avoid strenuous activities. Ice packs can assist in reducing bruising and swelling. The results from blepharoplasty can last a decade or longer, but even though they are lasting, the aging process does not stop. To complement your surgical outcomes, facial rejuvenation treatments, such as injections, fillers, and lasers, can be paired to create a glowing appearance.
