What is a Brow Lift?
Brow lift surgery (sometimes known as a browplasty or forehead lift) is a popular cosmetic procedure that helps create a higher brow appearance, which offers a younger look to the top area of the face. A drooping brow can frequently create an angry or tired appearance. This procedure surgically improves a drooping brow to give you a rejuvenated face by removing excess skin while raising the eyebrows. Dr. Suzanne Trott is a double board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, CA who has completed brow lift surgery on men and women to give them a younger appearance. Injectable wrinkle treatments, like BOTOX, are commonly used along with a brow lift at Suzanne A. Trott, MD, FACS for optimal results, producing a softer and smoother look.

Ideal Candidates For a Brow Lift
When we age, skin laxity diminishes and causes various aspects of the face to droop. This is particularly critical in the upper face region and typically impacts women and men. When looking in the mirror, do you seem tired or angry, or notice frown lines in between your eyebrows, or are bothered by your sagging brow? A surgical brow lift at Suzanne A. Trott, MD, FACS can be the ideal aesthetic procedure for you.
Surgical Technique For a Browplasty
Prior to surgery, local anesthesia will be used and the procedure is performed in the office. The incision technique performed during a brow lift is determined, depending on the severity of sag, if the forehead is affected, and the appearance of the hairline. There are different approaches that may be used:
- Traditional Incision
Also called the open lift incision, this places the surgical incision behind the hairline at the top of the head. The traditional incision not only masks scars, but it also provides a certain amount of controlled lifting during the procedure. The open incision is good for those with both a sagging brow and frown lines. The traditional brow lift is the better method if you are at risk for having a receding hairline. - Trichophytic Incision
The trichophytic incision is made directly along the patient's hairline. It allows significant lift in the brow for women and men who have a strong hairline with little risk for recession. - Lateral Brow Lift
Also called a temporal browplasty, the lateral technique places the incision within the hairline slightly above the temples. The lateral incision permits the outer parts of the brow to be lifted and is best for sagging that is present in the outer brow. A temporal brow lift also helps to smooth Crow’s feet. - Endoscopic Forehead Lift
The endoscopic lift is a more modern method employed in browplasty surgery. It places several tiny incisions in the hairline and inserts an endoscope, which travels down to the eyebrow to release its attached tools. Using the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is suspended with stitches to lift the brow in a better position.
What to Expect
Recovery after a brow lift varies with the most swelling and discomfort occurring with the open technique versus the temporal or endoscopic techniques. Overall, patients feel slight bruising and swelling in the upper portion of the face around the eyebrows and possibly near the eyes. Cold compresses may help to decrease the inflammation. Dr. Trott recommends patients sleep with pillows propped under their head for 3 – 4 nights following their brow lift. It is critical to avoid any movement or activities that may place pressure on your face. The average recovery time from a brow lift is about 2 – 3 weeks. The outcome can often be seen right away with a refreshed appearance that seems more alert, softer, and with a noticeable improvement in sagging skin and fine lines in the upper half of the face.
